Getting Started – New Users

Welcome to the Prince William Chamber of Commerce News & Events Wire Site. This wire allows you to see what's happening with other Chamber members and submit news or events of your own. The purpose of this guide is to give you a brief overview of the system and explain how you can contribute your news and events.

The Chamber News & Events Wire Site consists of news and events from multiple sources combined into one central site. Members may directly submit their news and events to be published. Chamber members who are not wire members may still submit their news via mail, email, or fax.

We really want people to submit their own news online at this point. While we'll occasionally publish some member news on our own, we're definitely trying to encourage people to make use of the media room functionality.

What is a media room?

A media room is an organization’s public relations “hub.” It is a web site that contains an organization’s facts, news, events, awards, articles, and more. The purpose of the media room is to inform the public and members of the press. We encourage you to create your own media room and link it to your existing website.

A quick tour through the wire:

1. The first page you see on the wire is the Homepage which contains a summary list of the most recent news and events.
2. The News & Notes page provides a complete listing of all news submitted to the wire. You may sort items by date. Click on the title of any news item to see the full article.
3. The What's Happening page is a listing of all upcoming events. A calendar is provided to give you a monthly view of events. Click on the title of any event or a particular day on the calendar to get full details.
4. The Member Media Rooms page simply provides a complete list of all members of the wire.
5. The My Profile page is where you may view your media room address, track favorite news and events, see ratings, and review comments you have left. 

Submitting news and events to the wire:

1. Register for your own media room or log onto an existing account.
2. Submit a news item by clicking on the News tab in the control panel. Click New Press Release to create the news item. Click Publish and Distribute to send the press release to both your media room and the Chamber.
3. To submit an event, click the Events tab. Click Add New Event to create the event. Click Publish and Distribute to send the event to both your media room and the Chamber.
4. You’re done! Your news or event item will show up within one to two business days after approval by Chamber staff.
