Dominion Woman's Club campaigns for Unicef's World Water Week!

Dominion Woman's Club - 1/30/2010

The Dominion Woman's Club is campaigning for local restaurants and their patrons to DINE + DONATE + DO YOUR PART for World Water Week sponsored by the UNICEF TAP Project. World Water Week is March 21st - 27th and is designed to raise awareness of the world water crisis and provide safe, clean water to the world's children. WHY A CAMPAIGN ABOUT CLEAN WATER? Because clean water is essential, yet nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to it and nearly half of those are children. With the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti, the world is more aware than ever of the need for clean water. Increasing the number of people with safe access to clean water and basic sanitation will save children at risk of waterborne illnesses, which is the second highest cause of preventable childhood deaths. Attention: restaurants, corporate partners, volunteers, advertising agencies, community groups ! Join this lifesaving movement by simply asking people to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free. With just ONE DOLLAR, UNICEF can provide a child with 40 days worth of clean water. The UNICEF Tap Project campaign is structured to collect donations from patrons, then have restaurants submit the donations to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. This year, during World Water Week March 21st - 27th, diners will also have the option to "Text for Tap," which lets them donate quickly and easily from their table from their own mobile phone. By texting "TAP" to UNICEF (864233), patrons can make a one-time $5 donation, which will help UNICEF provide 200 children with access to clean drinking water for one day. Raising just $25.71 each night of World Water Week, or $250 total, will raise enough funds to provide 27 children with water for a whole year!

DOMINION WOMAN's CLUB SUPPORTS "SOLES 4 SOULS"

Dominion Woman's Club - 11/9/2009

DOMINION WOMAN’S CLUB SUPPORTED SOLES4SOULS WITH OCTOBER SHOE DRIVE The Conservation Committee of the Dominion Woman's Club (DWC) passionately supported Soles4Souls through a recent club shoe drive. Soles4Soles is a charity that is “changing the world – one pair of shoes at a time” through its simple mission: To impact as many lives as possible with the gift of shoes. Soles4Souls originally coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over 1 Million pairs donated for these disasters with several churches partnering in the collection and distribution of footwear. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unworn shoes lying in their closets. And it is estimated there are 300 million children worldwide that are without shoes. DWC members rounded up and packed over 690 pairs of new and gently used shoes, in various sizes and styles, and even some shoes without mates, knowing that any shoes that cannot be used will be repurposed or recycled at the warehouse. Friends of DWC members also generously contributed, including Buckland Mills Elementary School and Advantage Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, LLC in Gainesville, who sponsored a portion of shipping costs. The Conservation committee sorted, matched pairs, and bound them with rubber bands before filling 33 boxes for shipment. If you would like to learn more about the Soles4Souls charity, visit their website at www.soles4soles.org. If you would like to donate money towards the shipping expense, please contact the Dominion Woman’s Club at 703-732-8539 or visit our website at www.dominionwomansclub.org.
